Hi all Mac users, This guide is only for those of you who are completely unable to bootcamp Windows for whatever reason. If you haven't tried yet, go here I would strongly recommend dualbooting/bootcamping Windows if at all possible as it will just generally be more stable. I was able get this working on Linux to, so you can try following the same steps if you use linux, ignoring xquartz and getting wine from their ppa: The 1.8 patch will not work when running COD4 on Mac.
You'll have seen this when trying to join and download the cod4-i mod and not being able to join afterwards. Fortunately, the 1.8 patch is reported to work on Mac when running COD4 using Wine. Wine is a 'translation layer' that allows Windows applications to run on Mac by performing some magic to make your Mac seem like Windows to the application you're trying to run. It's not perfect but it works quite a bit better these days than it used to. 1.8 is reported to work on Mac through Wine. Your mileage will vary here, this may not work for some people and you may have issues trying it this way, feel free to ask for help and I'll probably be able to help you out a little.

I managed to get it mostly working on Mac and was trying to record the steps to post a video, but you'll have to cope with text instructions:. Acquire a Windows copy of COD4, I zipped my PC version up and dropped it onto my Mac to test this.
Download and install XQuartz. Restart. Download and install Wine staging. Download and install Windows version of Steam:.
Sign into Steam etc, and keep it open. Run iw3mp.exe. Should now be good to install 1.8 patch by connecting to one of our servers and select the automatic upgrade / whatever the mod says when the game re-opens.

Let me know if this works or not did you do anything different? Both and are still working on it. Raves might have a solution but due to a lack of time he said maybe he can try at the end of this week.
Atm i got back my guid, now gotta find a way to put it back in the Windows version. I'm yet to find a solution to the guid problem. It's only a problem on our servers as GSM requires a 'legacy GUID' rather than the steam UIDs that 1.8 is using, and using steam ids instead of guids doesn't seem like a solution for us based on what I spoke to about. I'm still looking to see why Mac is not working correctly and I have messaged the bug to cod4x devs and I'm willing to provide them information and network dumps to try and help them solve it, I'll let you know if I get a workaround.
